A practical guide to starting in IT support in the UK — what to learn first, which entry-level certifications matter, and how to move towards job placement support.
IT support combines technical investigation with clear communication. You might help a user who cannot sign in, troubleshoot a device or document a recurring fault. This programme starts with Tech+ and progresses through the two A+ modules, networking and security.
The five-course count treats A+ Core 1 and Core 2 separately. Both official A+ exams are included in the £1,095 price. Network+, Security+ and Tech+ are training modules in this package, so do not budget on their exams being included.
Use lab work to practise a repeatable troubleshooting process: ask questions, gather evidence, test a likely cause and document the result. Keep examples that demonstrate both technical work and how you would explain it to a user.
Recruitment support includes CV and LinkedIn work, interview preparation and job-search support. Service desk, helpdesk and IT support technician vacancies can be relevant starting points. Requirements differ between employers; review the role, hours, location and responsibilities before applying.
Training is online and self-paced, with one year of access and an expected three-to-six-month completion time. The pace depends on experience and study time. Build time for revision and practical tasks into your plan, and ask for help early when a topic is unclear.
