Your career roadmap

The realistic four-step path most successful UK candidates follow. Each step builds on the previous one — no shortcuts, but no fluff either.

  1. Step 1

Pick a language and stick with it

Python is the friendliest entry point. JavaScript opens the door to web. C# is huge in UK enterprise. Pick one and finish a real project.

  2. Step 2

Get fluent with Git and the command line

You cannot work professionally without these — they’re assumed in every coding job advert.

  3. Step 3

    Build a portfolio

Three solid GitHub projects beat any certificate. Aim for: a web app, a CLI tool, and one larger end-to-end project.

  4. Step 4

    Apply for Junior Developer roles

Trainee / Junior / Graduate Developer is the typical first role. Many UK companies hire on portfolio + interview, no degree required.
